Emily Mathieson

Emily Mathieson is a U.K.-based writer and former travel editor. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Telegraph, Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine, Condé Nast Traveller, Afar, and more. Emily began her career with a five-year stint as a freelance writer and sub-editor at Esquire, Vogue Entertaining + Travel, Wallpaper, World of Interiors, Harper's Bazaar, and Observer Food. She later went on to work as a commissioning editor at Condé Nast Traveller for six years before becoming the travel editor at The Guardian. For the past eight years, Emily has worked as a freelance consultant, editor, writer, and proofreader for various international consumer titles. Her interests and specialties include sustainability, meaningful and independent experiences around the U.K. (plus a smattering of the same in Scandinavia), and hotels and restaurants focusing on ethics, design, and architecture. Recently, she’s turned her focus to social and environmental innovation, working as a web editor at Nesto, the U.K.'s innovation agency for social good, and a production editor for the Environmental Defense Fund's Solutions magazine. Outside of writing and editing, she is the founder of Aerende, a purpose-driven business selling timeless and sustainable homewares, handmade by people in the U.K. facing barriers to employment.
