Disney World has announced a closing date for Splash Mountain ahead of its transformation to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Officially closing on Jan. 23, 2023, the ride's new iteration will be inspired by the culture of New Orleans and the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, “The Princess and the Frog.”

As part of the recent announcement, Disney shared additional attractions details, including a new scene and critters. The attraction takes place where the story left off in the 2009 Disney film.

“This new scene is the thrilling moment you first drop into the bayou and encounter some friends both new and familiar,” Disney Parks Blog shared.

Taking place where the 2009 film left off, the ride is described as a “musical adventure,” where guests will join beloved characters Princess Tiana and Louis as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.

In the concept artwork shared, “fireflies will light up the night and invite you deeper into the bayou … almost like they’re waving you forward.” The scene will also feature Zydeco music, a “special blend of rhythm and blues that was born in Louisiana, and when you hear it, you’ll feel like you’ve truly stepped into Tiana’s world.”

“Jazz-loving alligator Louis” will explain to riders where the music is coming from before Tiana introduces some new friends. A “band full of adorable critters, including an otter, a rabbit, a racoon, a beaver, a turtle and others” will sing and play using instruments made from natural materials found in the bayou. “It feels like they may have a bigger role to play in this story … but we’ll just have to wait and see on that one,” Disney teases.

Riders will also be treated to Zydeco music, a genre that draws on styles and sounds from many cultures, is reflective of the overall spirit of the attraction.

“It’s emblematic of what we’re always striving for with our attractions – bringing people of different backgrounds together through timeless Disney stories. This new musical adventure provides us with a song sheet to write that concept into reality.”

Familiar favorites from the film will also lend their voices to the attraction, including Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana, Bruno Campos as Prince Naveen, Michael Leon Wooley as Louis, and Jenifer Lewis as Mama Odie.

No closing date for the Disneyland attractions has been announced. Both versions of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are expected to open in Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort in 2024.
