Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit Makes Its Florida Debut With Large-scale, High-definition Projections of the Artist's Most Iconic Work
After years of wowing art lovers in cities across Europe, Asia, and Australia, the immersive "Van Gogh Alive" exhibit is finally making its way to Florida this fall.
Making its debut on Nov. 21 at The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, the "Van Gogh Alive" exhibit creates a full sensory experience with the legendary artist. Paintings like "Starry Night" and "Sunflowers" will be on display alongside more than 3,000 other works from Vincent van Gogh, but unlike other exhibits, this unique experience presents his art as large-scale, high-definition projections on the walls and floors.
The displays — enormous recreations of Van Gogh's iconic paintings — are accompanied by a perfectly synchronized classical music soundtrack. The experience is designed to draw visitors into Van Gogh’s post-impressionist artwork, famous for its thick brushstrokes and liberal paint applications that already make them seem three-dimensional. Photographs and videos of Van Gogh’s inspiration will also be shown.
“Dalí seems to intersect in his interests and life with nearly every significant cultural movement, event, or person of our era — Van Gogh is no exception,” said Dr. Hank Hine, executive director of The Dalí Museum, in a news release. “Van Gogh and Dalí shared a passion for landscape and the portal it provides to a hidden world. A glimpse of Van Gogh’s world will be transformed onto the walls and floors of our gallery, providing a dramatic and awe-inspired experience for our audience.”
"Van Gogh Alive" will be on display from Nov. 21 to April 11, 2021. Although access to this exhibit is included in the price of any museum ticket, advanced timed tickets are required for all visitors wanting to see the art installation, including museum members.
Tickets are currently available for entry from opening day through Jan. 3, 2021. Additional tickets for the remaining exhibit window will be released in December. For more information, visit The Dalí Museum's official website.
