You’ve probably seen Daniel Krieger’s food photography somewhere—especially if you’re a reader of Eater or The New York Times.
What began as an opportunity to borrow his mom’s Coolpix point-and-shoot when Krieger first moved to New York City has become a way of life for the photographer. “I would take the camera with me on the subway and take photos as I walked around the streets,” he says. “My first little gig was for the Brooklyn Paper and they started sending me out on assignments to cover local restaurants.”
Since that first gig, Krieger has spent 10 years shooting weddings, speaking at conferences, and photographing for publications around the world. He even shoots the occasional cookbook. “The editorial stuff is really how I began,” Krieger shares. “That's a good way to train yourself. You're shooting on location, and moving around a lot—you're on the fly. You've got quick deadlines. It really prepares you.”
