California’s Santa Monica Pier Is Getting a ‘Stranger Things’ Makeover
The third season of Stranger Things promises to transport audiences to the summer of 1985 when it premieres on July 4. But for fans who just can’t wait — or those who want to see first-hand what the setting of the coming season could be like — there’s a solution. And it doesn’t require time travel or a visit to Indiana.
In anticipation of the new season, Los Angeles’ Santa Monica Pier is hosting a Stranger Things season 3-themed fair that promises to deliver an imagined glimpse into Hawkins, Indiana in the summer of 1985. The two-day fair kicks off Saturday, June 29 and runs until Sunday, June 30 — giving Stranger Things’ biggest fans four days to recuperate before the new season drops on Netflix.
Like any good fair, the Stranger Things 3 Fun Fair will be packed with carnival games, a slime-filled dunk tank, and a Demogorgon-filled Curiosity House. At the center of the event, guests can watch '80s cover bands, magicians, and the Hawkins High School Cheerleaders, while those who visit Hawkins Bike Shop can get their photo taken with Mike’s Schwinn.
The Stranger Things-driven fair doesn’t stop there. Expect to find Santa Monica’s iconic Pacific Wheel transformed into the Hawkins Wheel, while other iconic pier rides will be altered with in-show elements..
For a full '80s fair experience, come hungry. There will be eating contests and an old-school Scoops Ahoy ice cream truck that’s slated to be featured in season 3. The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. both days and will be located at the Pier Deck parking lot at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier. Admission is free.
The following weekend, the Stranger Things theme will takeover Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park in Brooklyn’s Coney Island. The East Coast event kicks off on Thursday, July 4 — the same day Stranger Things 3 premieres — and runs through Sunday, July 7.
