The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles know the ins and outs of New York City, considering they live in the sewers. So, it was only a matter of time before the anonymous crime fighters would get some official recognition. It's been announced that Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello will serve as ambassadors to the city in a 12-month campaign focusing on what families can do together while in the Big Apple.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nickelodeon will create special art for the campaign, which is being lead by NYC & Company. “We’re excited to enlist the help of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, four dynamic and adventurous New Yorkers, to welcome family travelers to NYC,” says Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company.

The new campaign is timed with the release of the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, due out this June.

Past ambassadors have included beloved children’s characters like the Muppets, Curious George, and Dora and Friends.
