You’ll Want to See the Spanish Wine Region Where ‘The Bachelorette’ Is Headed
On Monday night’s episode of “The Bachelorette,” contestants will go on a romantic getaway to Spain’s wine region, Rioja.
Once in Spain, the three remaining contestants will compete for overnight dates in the “Fantasy Suite” with bachelorette Rachel Lindsay.
But Rioja offers the contestants plenty to do outside of hotel rooms. The bachelorette’s vacation itinerary includes several wineries, medieval castles and a hot air balloon ride over the region's sprawling vineyards.
They'll also stroll through some of Rioja’s oldest towns and monuments: The Castillo de San Vicente de la Sonsierra is a picturesque fortress that dates back to the 12th century, and the Monasterio de Valvanera can trace its roots back to the ninth century. Contestants who prefer something more modern can visit the Marques de Riscal Hotel, a technicolor, swooping structure designed by Frank Gehry in 2003.
And, of course, it’s not a vacation without sampling the local cuisine. The tapas crawl on Logroño’s Calle Laurel is one of the best-known in the area. The pedestrian-only streets are home to over 50 taperias, with glasses of wine around $2 and tapas for $5.
“The Bachelorette” episode in Rioja will air on ABC on Monday, July 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
