Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Best Musicals Will Be Available to Stream Every Friday During Quarantine (Video)

As they say, “The show must go on.” And they mean it quite literally.

While many people search the internet for new ways to entertain themselves while practicing social distancing and staying at home to combat coronavirus (COVID-19), some are opting for unique streaming services from theater and music companies all over the world.

For instance, you can enjoy one of Shakespeare’s many plays courtesy of the Globe Theater, or enjoy famous arias, operas, and concerts from the Metropolitan Opera and the Sydney Opera House. And now, you can get a Broadway experience by watching some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best musicals on YouTube.

On Instagram, Webber posted about the new YouTube channel, The Show Must Go On!, which is a project headed by Universal. Every Friday for the next few weeks, the YouTube channel will stream one of Webber’s famous musicals, starting with "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat" (starring Donny Osmond) on April 3.

The musicals will go live each week at 7 p.m. BST (British Summer Time), or 2 p.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time).

And the best part is that it’s completely free. Since most Broadway musical tickets run upwards of $100 for the “cheap seats,” this is an incredible deal.

Webber also mentioned in his Instagram post that somewhere “buried in the schedule” is one of his “disaster” musicals, "By Jeeves." “I’m very, very fond of it, and so will you,” Webber said. "By Jeeves" is a 1975 musical by Webber and playwright/lyricist Alan Ayckbourn which is based on the series of novels and short stories by P. G. Wodehouse.

Considering that all Broadway theaters are closed for the duration of the coronavirus crisis in New York City, this is the best way to enjoy live musical theater. It’s unclear if the channel will only post Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, or if other composers and shows will be involved later on. If anything, this means you might be able to finally see "Cats" as it was originally intended: without awkward CGI.
