For all you singletons out there, fear not that you might find yourself sitting home alone on Valentine’s Day sipping champagne and eating an entire pint of chocolate chip ice cream. But as anyone who has a pet knows, you're never really alone.
There are options—and good ones—that allow you and your dog to spend some real quality time together and get your respective paws pampered at the same time. While exploring spas for me and my dog Max, I came across a company called Specialty International Tours who offers a program called “Voyages with Dogs.” I’m already liking the sound of this.
They have packages to France and Germany, which works perfectly for me and Max since he is part French Poodle and my heritage is German. These tours includes seven nights’ accommodations with daily breakfast, transportation on a private coach, four dinners, spa treatments—for both you and your dog—and airport transfers. Prices start around $2399 per person (dogs stay for free), but keep in mind that airfare is not included.
What I really loved about this is that the owner of the tour company specifically chooses to fly in and out of Germany because both Lufthansa Airlines and the Frankfurt airport are known for their excellent treatment of animals. So for those of you who are totally paranoid to fly your dog—as am I—this should provide some level of comfort they will take good care of your pooch.
So rather than sit at home this Valentine’s Day and lament the fact that you are spending it alone, envision this: you, your dog, wonderful food and wine and spa treatments galore. It doesn’t get any better than that. Maybe we’ll see you there!
