Sylvie Bigar

Sylvie Bigar developed an obsession with cassoulet (France's ancestral bean and meat stew) after accepting an unassuming assignment on the nation’s dish. That assignment turned into a 10-year, thought-provoking journey that ended in a memoir: “Cassoulet Confessions: Food, France, Family, and the Stew That Saved My Soul.” Sylvie lives in New York City but grew up in Switzerland, holds three passports, and speaks four languages. She travels the world in search of culinary delights and has authored and co-authored four books and numerous essays and articles for publications like The New York Times, Washington Post, Food & Wine, Forbes.com, Bon Appetit, Departures, Travel & Leisure, and Town & Country. Sylvie served as the food editor for New York Resident, covered the Bocuse d’Or culinary competition in Lyon, France, live, via Twitter, for Bon Appetit, and is a contributing writer (in French) to her hometown newspaper, Geneva’s Le Temps, Le Figaro magazine, Histoire magazine, and for New York City’s FrenchMorning.com.
