Petrina Darrah

When travel writer Petrina Darrah was suddenly limited to the boundaries of her country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she bought a camper van and logged 15,000 miles around the island of New Zealand. Petrina grew up on a dairy farm and always had a fondness for words. She started her travel writing career in 2016 while working as a content producer for GoAbroad, a search engine for international study, volunteer, intern, and teaching opportunities. Since then, she’s used her wordsmith skills as a digital content executive for Juicy Group, an award-winning tourism company, a digital content and campaign manager for Tourism New Zealand, and a freelance travel writer. Her work has been featured in National Geographic Traveler, Wired magazine, the New Zealand Herald, Travel + Leisure, Atlas Obscura, Condé Nast Traveler, Wilderness, The Drop, and North and South Magazine, where she focuses on sustainability and outdoor adventure. Patrina holds a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from the University of Auckland, and can often be found either lacing up her hiking boots for the next big adventure or plunging into hot springs for some solo self-care.
