Yankee Stadium Is Being Turned Into a Drive-in Concert and Movie Venue This Summer (Video)

Drive-ins are making a comeback.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, people are finding different ways to enjoy the things they love — including taking virtual museum tours, online cooking classes, and now, drive-in concerts, movies, and other events.

While the drive-ins used to be a thing of the past, the trend has surged over the last few weeks. And now it’s hitting Yankee Stadium.

According to Time Out, Uptown Drive-In, a festival featuring movies, music, and even car side dinner service, is coming to the iconic stadium in New York City starting on weekends this summer, set to take place in the parking lot of Yankee Stadium.

The festival will include music from local New York City artists, food from local street vendors, and even interactive activities, games, and raffles, Time Out reported. All the events will be live, on a raised stage for easy viewing, and audio will be broadcasted to attendee’s car radios. There will even be family-friendly brunch events on Saturdays and Sundays during the day, according to Time Out.

The festival is being run by MASC Hospitality Group, which works in the Bronx community to host the Bronx Night Market and the Bronx Beer Festival.

“Since we were planning on having the Bronx Night Market, the Bronx Beer Festival and Uptown Epicure Festival running this summer, which was supposed to start in May, we already had a lot of great options available. Everyone is so excited about the possibility of connecting sooner [at this new experience] than initially planned,” said MASC Hospitality Group's Marco Shalma to Time Out.

Events are planned for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, though official dates and ticket prices have not yet been announced.

Shalma told Time Out that the company is “working with city and state officials, and some of our sponsors” to make sure these events are affordable for local New Yorkers. Shalma added that there may be online raffles to win tickets.
