The South Africa edition of the Essence Festival Durban will take place this fall from Sept. 28-Oct. 1, 2017, following a successful inaugural festival last year.

The 2017 Essence Festival Durban will feature pastor, author, and filmmaker Bishop T.D. Jakes, organizers announced Thursday.

The festival of concerts, workshops, and seminars brings together performers, speakers, local artists, and more. More than 10,000 people attended last year.

“Last year’s inaugural Essence Festival Durban was an immense success,” Essence Communications President Michelle Ebanks said in a statement, “and we’re thrilled to once again partner with eThekwini Municipality for another one-of-a-kind cultural experience.”

“The City of Durban looks forward to the 2017 edition of the Essence Festival Durban,” eThekwini Mayor Cllr. Zandile Gumede said in a statement. “Durban is being discovered by global travelers looking for new and different cultural experiences combined with the excitement of nature and historical significance.”

The announcement comes after the conclusion of the Essence Festival in New Orleans over the past weekend.
