Celebrate Dia de los Muertos, even if you’re stuck at home.

Hornitos Tequila is hosting a virtual “Paint and Sip” event on Nov. 1, also known as Dia de los Muertos. This holiday, for those who do not know, is celebrated in Mexico as a day for people to remember loved ones who have died. As somber as this may sound, it’s actually a joyful holiday that’s all about celebrating life, and is filled with food, colorful decorations, and family activities.

And Hornitos is adding to the fun by letting anyone, no matter where they are in the world, enjoy the holiday by painting along with artist Lourdes Villagomez and sipping special margaritas featuring Hornitos tequila.

The virtual paint-along will happen on Nov. 1 through the brand’s IGTV. There is no set time, since people can access the video any time during the holiday week. Villagomez will give a step-by-step tutorial on painting a new take on the traditional Mexican sugar skulls.

The brand also has a special cocktail for the occasion, called the Don Francisco margarita. To make this cocktail, combine two ounces of Hornitos Plata or Reposado Tequila with one ounce of orange juice, one half-ounce of lime juice, and three-quarters ounce of honey syrup. Pour all into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake and strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with an orange slice or edible marigold. To make the honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and hot water and stir until honey is fully dissolved. Allow to cool and store, refrigerated, in an airtight container for up to three weeks. The tequila brand will also be posting cocktail tutorials and interesting information about the holiday as well.
