Prepare for high-stakes adventures — and a hairball or two.

A new crew of beloved animated characters will get the theme park treatment for the very first time when The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! opens at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2020.

The brand new Universal ride, which is based on the 2016 film "The Secret Life of Pets" and its sequel out this summer, will have guests traveling through the streets of New York City as stray puppies making their way towards a big adoption event. The ride will even feature a traditional track — not just a screen experience — letting passengers scurry through the urban landscape from the perspective of a pet on a wild adventure towards finding a permanent home.

Familiar characters including Gidget the Pomeranian, Max the Terrier and the rabbit villain Snowball can all be found on the ride when it opens next summer, but how they’ll actually appear is more of a mystery. The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! promises to have both animated and live characters, meaning you might be able to get closer to that fluffy dog Max — or Chloe, the curmudgeonly cat — than any parade or experience ever before.

When it opens, it’ll also be the park’s only traditional “dark ride” intended for children at Universal Studios Hollywood. Despicable Me Minion Mayhem and DreamWorks Theatre Featuring Kung Fu Panda are interactive theater experiences, making The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! attraction both groundbreaking and worth the wait.

Hoping to visit Universal Studios Hollywood a bit sooner? You’re in luck. The California theme park is currently running a promotion on annual passes for just a few bucks more than a 1-day ticket.
