In Fortune magazine’s annual 100 Best Companies to Work For rankings, readers scan the prestigious list for details about the winners’ compensation packages, work environment, and leave policies. We read it for the scoop on their travel and vacation benefits.
In reviewing the entries that made the cut—which are vetted via a random employee survey that covers everything from attitudes about management’s credibility and in-house camaraderie to insight on hiring practices and recognition programs—certain winners stood out for offering something we particularly value: a culture that encourages and supports travel.
It’s no secret that your much-deserved vacation days are meant to be used—they benefit both your health and productivity—but more and more Americans find it too difficult to take them. The companies that made Fortune’s coveted rankings are already doing much to recommend them, but these 11 winners are taking notable measures to make sure their employees get those getaways. Fortune Ranking: 87
According to the survey, employees of this San Jose software developer can opt for a paid, six-week sabbatical every four years, and the office shuts down twice a year for a full week.
Fortune Ranking: 54
This California design firm’s top salespeople (with guests) get all-expenses-paid weeklong trips to the likes of Paris, Thailand, Hawaii, and Rome. There’s also a sabbatical program that provides six weeks of PTO every four years, Fortune says.
Camden Property Trust
Fortune Ranking: 9
In addition to a “Have FunD Bonus” that averaged more than $5,000 per employee, Fortune says that this REIT awarded two employees trips to the Super Bowl and paid all expenses for it—a reward for stories they submitted about how they spent their bonuses.
CHG Healthcare Services
Fortune Ranking: 18
Fortune writes that this medical staffing firm plans to send four winners and their guests on a paid trip to Kenya this year, where they’ll participate in a service project and go on a safari.
Hyland, Creator of Onbase
Fortune Ranking: 48
The employees at this Westlake, Ohio software firm have flex days and paid sabbaticals.

At this family-owned grocery store in Woodland, California, employees have been taken on company trips to go snowmobiling and white-water rafting.

Employees get an annual year-end trip to a tropical destination at this Chester, Pennsylvania, construction company. Fortune notes that one past trip was to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico, where LL Cool J and Sublime performed shows for attendees.

At this outdoor gear co-op, staff receive two days a year for paid time off to go camping, hiking, skiing, and more, and use the things they sell.
