One-in-Five Americans Are Willing to Fake a Relationship Status for Vacation Perks
Travel planning website Expedia and dating app Tindr put their heads together to study the correlation between travel and romance play together for Americans. For the "2015 Foreign Affairs Study," a pool of 1,000 people answered questions about travel and romance ranging from how early in a relationship they would consider taking an overnight trip with their sweetie, how they prioritize destination features when another person is involved, and what destinations are most attractive for a couple looking for a getaway (among others).
Some of the results were expected, while others provided a revealing look at how we quickly we'll exaggerate a relationship situation to rake in the free perks (read on for more on that). Here are a few takeaways:
Paris is Still the Perfect Proposal Setting
According to the survey, 46 percent Americans choose the French capital as the ideal setting for a marriage proposal. Rome followed with 40 percent, Barcelona with 22 percent, New York City with 21 percent, and Sydney trailing with 20 percent.
Overnight Trips May Not Be the Milestone They Used to Be
Turns out 14 percent of survey takers would jet off with their sig other within the first month of the relationship.The study average was six months, but 36 percent said they would wait more than a year for a couples vacation. All of that being said, 12 percent of Americans would expect their partner's family to pay their way on a joined trip.
Status Means Nothing in the Face of Vacation Perks
According to the study, 22 percent of Americans answered that they would fake a relationship status to take advantage of vacation perks and upgrades.
Looking for a Date? Head to Los Angeles
Most survey takers (37 percent) voted L.A. from a list of 20 most-visited cities as having the most attractive population. In terms of the least-attractive poulations, Istanbul came in at 26 percent with Seoul following with 25 percent.
