A mysterious light in the night sky shocked San Diego residents and led many to call law enforcement out of safety concerns. Now, the U.S. Navy says a missile test caused the light, which could be seen as far away as Nevada.

The test of the Trident II missile, reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune, took place at a test range off the coast of Southern California. The missile was part of routine tests and was unarmed, according to the report.

Flights over the Pacific Ocean near Los Angeles International Airport will be rerouted over the coming week due to military activity, according to a Reuters report. It remains unclear whether the restriction is related to last week's test.
