The entire idea of an airplane that could get you from New York City to London in 30 minutes is pretty Sci-Fi, but it does exist. Skreemr—a supersonic scram jet that travels at 10 times the speed of sound—is currently kept to the confines of military use and testing, but imagine the opportunities this would bring to commercial travel. Booking an entire day for travel would be a thing of the past (meaning: more vacation time for you!).
This aircraft is the product of design Charles Bombardier and concept rendering creator Ray Mattison. Skreemr is made up of four wings and two rockets that work together to get the craft going to speeds more than 7,600 mph. While it may be a frequent flyer's dream, the designers admit that introducing this kind of aircraft to commercial travel is left to the "distant future," according to a write-up on The Huffington Post.
