Ritz Carlton's new cocktail and in-room scent takes inspiration from Manhattan's largest park.
The latest in a growing trend of hotels crafting signature scents, The Ritz Carlton New York, Central Park is taking inspiration from its surrounds with a new in-room fragrance.
The property, a perennial World’s Best favorite which overlooks the south side of the iconic park, partnered with L’Arganique Beauté on the project, and while perfumes smelling like New York City usually invoke mixed reactions (eau de garbage, anyone?) this one’s light and sweet, and doesn’t overwhelm the senses.
Notes are cheeky, including apple (à la the city’s moniker), strawberries (a nod to Strawberry Fields), cherry blossoms, and green mint, and will change once a season, much like the park itself.
In addition to the room scent, the hotel is also offering a Central Park-themed cocktail made with gin, vodka, St. Germaine, lime juice, and mint (candles and personal fragrances are also in the works).
“The scent is very floral but also spicy. It has berry notes—so I used Veev Acai Vodka for that hint of ‘strawberry’ flavor without being overpowering,” explained Norman Buzkofzer, head bartender at the hotel. “The Elderflower [in St. Germaine] adds floral notes and gin has so many herbs, which is where you get that spiciness. Smell it first before drinking it, so you can experience all of those scents and flavors one by one.”
The cocktail, which is currently available at The Star Lounge, costs $22 and comes with a coaster and sample size of the complementary room spray to take home, but sip it slow. This one’s deceptively strong.
