Watch an awe-inspiring visualization of London’s congested airport system.
Britain’s National Air Traffic Services, which has the unenviable duty of coordinating some 3,000 daily arrivals and departures across London’s five international airports, has put out a visualization of 24 hours of flights over the world’s busiest airport system. Gaze upon our beautiful web of flight paths, the NATS seems to say, and forgive any wrongs that flying out of London has done you. Take a deep breath and remember that 99.8 percent of our flights experience no air-traffic control-related delay.
You can imagine why a third runway at Heathrow and a new mega-airport have been proposed to deal with the congestion. Check out the NATS’ visualization of flight paths across the entire U.K. here, and the whole of Europe here.
