Just Back: k.d. lang From New York City
If I stayed uptown, I'd spend all my time and money in taxis going down to SoHo. So I stay at the SoHo Grand. Here I can just wear jeans, walk to Whole Foods and Dean & DeLuca for great food. I love all the coffee shops and the design stores. I sleep really well at the Grand—the colors are sedate and the rooms have big silk curtains that block out the light. And they have balconies! It seems like hotels have stopped building balconies. Maybe it's an insurance thing—or maybe they're afraid of people jumping. You know what else is good?I can go straight from the front door to the elevator. I never have to walk through the lobby, like at the Royalton, where I feel as if I'm on a catwalk.
