A Museum with a Jamaican Beat
An Ocho Rios theme park with a rock-steady rhythm, Chris Blackwell's new Island Village showcases the best of Jamaican and reggae culture. Ann Hodges, the architect behind many of Blackwell's hotels (including Strawberry Hill), modeled the park on a traditional Caribbean village. The curators of Seattle's Experience Music Project helped create an interactive museum, and Simon Velez, the Colombian wunderkind of Bamboo architecture, designed an amphitheater to accommodate big-name talent. High-concept amusements aside, this is still Jamaica, so bring your bikini and head to the park's white-sand beach. Island Village, Turtle River Rd., Ocho Rios; 876/974-5831.
