Sure, you may be raking in the likes for your most recent foray into self-portraiture—but are you bringing in the monetary benefits? The newest trend in travel marketing wants to reward you for all of those vacation selfies—all one has to do is use the right hashtags.

Select hotels are stocking selfie sticks to hand out to guests looking to use their selfies for more than just social sharing. How it works: Pull you and your travel buddies together for a group shot, share it with your social world using the hashtags the brand wants you to use, and you’ve got a chance at winning gift cards, free stays, and future upgrades.

Some of the brands that have jumped on the bandwagon include Cheaptickets.com (who previously hosted a categorized spring break selfie competition), Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, and JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in California, who went as far as creating an entire vacation package around the photo op (complete with a suggested “selfie spot” map). Surprised? Appalled? You shouldn’t be; there is a selfie museum, after all.
