Chicago-born, Nashville-based chef Tony Galzin (of the pop-up Sycamore Nashville, formerly Trio in the Windy City) has opened with GM and partner Caroline Galzin the much-anticipated Fifty First Kitchen & Bar, in the heart of The Nations, a neighborhood on the rise in Nashville.
They rehabbed a charming turn of the century home into an intimate space for a seasonal menu, bountiful in shared plates with a rustic Italian sensibility. Much of the food—and even ingredients for the beverage program—come from the property’s 40-by-25-foot garden, planted with some 50 herbs, vegetables, greens, fig trees and blueberry bushes. The self-maintaining model, which will not need to be replanted every year, is overseen by Josh Corlew of Hands On Nashville.
Keep your eyes out for the Sapelo Island clams, topped with ‘Nduja, sorrel and breadcrumbs, the grilled quail with peach mostarda and hazelnuts, as well as the tagliatelle dressed in morels, green beans, egg yolk and pecorino. There’s a rotating cast of charcuterie, a focused beverage program of 20 wine selections and curated house cocktails, which give a contemporary spin on the classics (the Roma mixes rye, Averna amaro, and Angostura orange). Desserts will keep you on your toes, delivering salted caramel and goat’s milk gelato, or a mascarpone cheesecake with strawberry sorbet and candied ginger. It's sure to be another standout addition in Nashville's head-turning dining scene.
