Find out how two college buddies from Vermont trade it all in for a life as brewers in the Caribbean.
In the premiere episode of EX-PATS, a monthly video series, Savannah Jane Buffet heads to the island paradise of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands to meet the Caribbean’s top micro-brewers—Kevin and Chirag (“Cheech”). After long hours as a physical therapist and NASA employee, the two friends, who met at the University of Vermont, decided to trade it all in for the good life in the Caribbean. Only it wasn’t so easy to start. Their joint love of beer, however, has since evolved into big business. Now the owners of St. John Brewers and the Tap Room bar in Mongoose Junction, these best friends take nothing for granted; when not serving mango ale, they take advantage of the pristine island’s hiking trails, hidden beaches, and memorable sunsets. In their words, “We’re living the dream. At the end of the day, it’s all about being happy.” And isn’t that what being an ex-pat is all about?
