Chef José Andrés Announces He's Bringing The Bazaar to NYC
It's been rumored for quite some time, but today celebrated chef José Andrés announced that he'll be bringing an outpost of his Spanish restaurant The Bazaar to the forthcoming SLS New York hotel.
The announcement came along with the news that sbe, the company behind the SLS properties, received $109 million in financing from the Fortress Investment Group for the 190-room hotel planned for Park Avenue. It also comes one day after Andrés said he was pulling plans to open a restaurant in the new Trump Hotel in Washington, DC, over mogul and presidential candidate Donald Trump's recent inflammatory remarks about Mexican immigrants.
Andrés's partnership with the SLS hotels is nothing new: The Bazaar already has outposts in the group's hotels in Beverly Hills, South Beach, and Las Vegas. But it is the prolific restaurateur's first property in New York City, where he notes in a press release is where he began his career in America 24 years ago.
There aren't any further details about the New York City restaurant, but it's safe to assume it will be similar to the other versions of The Bazaar, which feature Andrés's signature playful take on Spanish tapas. Dishes include the likes of spherical olives, cotton candy foie gras, and a caprese salad made with cherry tomatoes and liquid mozzarella, as well as braised Wagyu beef cheeks, a 28-ounce grass-fed Tomahawk, and Ibérico ham with a fried egg and truffle butter.
As for the SLS New York, the press release notes that it is on track to open in summer 2016 with 190 guest rooms and suites, a rooftop lounge, and the SBar lounge in the basement of the property.
