Travelers looking for an affordable vacation will find some of the world’s cheapest city breaks waiting for them in Asia and Africa.

A recent report published by global financial services firm UBS found that six of the top 10 most expensive destinations to have a mini-getaway for two in are in Europe, while the cheapest options are primarily found in Asia and Africa.

New York City was the most expensive destination for a vacation, costing an average of $1,075.60 for an overnight city break for two. Seoul came in second at an average of $1,002.20, though UBS representatives pointed to the Winter Olympic Games that took place nearby in Pyeongchang early in 2018 as a primary factor in the destination’s ranking.

Geneva, Oslo, and Zurich followed as the next three most expensive stops, with respective average costs of $965.80, $948.40, and $930 for an overnight city break for two.

Tokyo was another stop in Asia to make it to the top 10 most expensive list, coming in at sixth place with an average overnight city break cost of $895 for two, though Dubai was close behind in seventh place, with an average cost of $891.40 for a city break for two.

Paris, Frankfurt, and Copenhagen rounded out the top 10 most expensive cities, with respective average costs of $888, $874.50, and $819.70 for an overnight city break for two.

Cairo provides the cheapest option, with an average cost of $313.50 for a city break for two, followed by Lagos at $314.10, Mumbai at $347.40, Istanbul at $362.80, and Johannesburg at $383.70.

Those interested in Europe will also find affordable options in Sofia, Bulgaria, which ranked sixth with an average cost coming in at $385.10.

Several cities in Asia, including Bangkok and Manila, also made the list at seventh and 10th place, with average costs of $388.70 and $391.20 for an overnight city break for two.

Kuala Lumpur and New Delhi were the last two cities to make it to the top 10 cheapest stops, coming in at eighth and ninth place, with respective average costs of $389.70 and $389.90 for an overnight city break for two.

UBS calculated the rankings by looking at the cost of a getaway for two people based on the price of an overnight stay in a first-class hotel, two dinners at a restaurant (including a bottle of wine), a taxi ride, two tickets for public transportation, and a rental car.

UBS also factored in costs travelers might run into, like making a phone call, purchasing a paperback book, or purchasing postage for a letter. Prices do not include travel costs to and from each destination.
