Between house training, vet visits, and—of course—cuddling, a new puppy can take up a lot of time. BrewDog, a Scottish brewery with plans to open a location in Ohio later this year, doesn’t want any of that time to go to waste. Their solution: the beer maker now offers a one week “paw-ternity”
Earlier this week, the brewery announced that any worker welcoming a brand new puppy or an older rescue will be given a one-week leave to ensure his or her fur baby has no trouble adjusting to a new home. They say they are the first company in the United States (and the first brewery in the United Kingdom) to offer paid time off for new pet owners. The work perk will be offered to more than 1,000 company employees across the world.

"It's not easy trying to juggle work and settle a new dog into your life, and many members of our crew have four-legged friends at home," company co-founder James Watt told USA Today. "We wanted to take the stress out of the situation and let our teams take the time they need to welcome their new puppy or dog into their family."
BrewDog is no stranger to dog-friendly policies: the company website says the brewery was founded “by two men and a dog back in 2007” and employees are welcome to bring their pets to work any time.
Parents of new human babies aren’t exempt from the policy either—the company offers enhanced paternity and maternity leave as well.
