How Virgin Voyages Plans to Be Environmentally Friendly
In honor of Earth Day, Virgin Voyages has announced two eco-friendly partnerships focusing on responsibly sourced and sustainable products aboard its first ship, the Scarlet Lady.
The first partnership, with Intelligentsia Coffee, will offer guests on the Scarlet Lady a complimentary custom brew of coffee at all bars and restaurants on board the ship, as well as crafted espresso drinks at the ship’s coffee bars.
“Environmental sustainability and social impact are at the core of Virgin Voyages’ values,” Virgin Voyages announced in a statement. “Those values are shared by Intelligentsia’s team, who focuses on making extraordinary coffee an agent of change.” Intelligentsia has a “direct trade” model, in which their buying teams travel to coffee-producing regions to make deals with growers at above-fair trade prices, according to the statement.
The second partnership is with Emerald Brand, which will provide unique, Tree-Free and plastic-free products, including bath tissue, facial tissue, hot cups, paper towels, napkins, straws, bottles, bags, and other items.
In addition, guests on the ships will have access to complimentary filtered still and sparkling water at all bars and restaurants, as well as specially designed Natura filtered water-filling stations.
“Everything down to seemingly simple changes in our supply chain is made with the intention of giving Sailors the absolute best experience while continuing to change business for good,” said Jill Stoneberg, Director of Sustainability and Social Impact at Virgin Voyages, in a statement.
Both partnerships are intended to offer travelers a luxurious experience while also being environmentally conscious.
The Scarlet Lady will kick off Virgin Voyages’ inaugural season in April 2020. Voyage packages scheduled between April and October 2020 begin at $1,600 per person, and set sail across the Caribbean.
