Overflowing Toilet Causes Major Delays at Orlando Airport
Thousands of passengers traveling through Orlando International Airport found themselves in a seriously crappy situation over the weekend after a toilet backed up in one of the bathrooms in the customs arrival area.
“As soon as we landed, they immediately told us that there were problems with the terminal and we would have to sit there on the tarmac for a while,” traveler Mike Ortiz told KIRO 7. “There were carpets ripped up and there were floor fans trying to air out what was, I guess, some flooding going on.”
According to the Orlando Sentinel, it appears as though a traveler may have attempted to flush the contents of his or her luggage down the drain.
However, officials at the airport told ABC that while they are actively investigating what might have been flushed, who flushed it, and how it possibly caused such a mess, they said their immediate focus is on cleaning up and re-opening the customs area.
And while the situation seems humorous, it slowed down one of the country’s busiest airports.
On Tuesday, officials announced that more than 43 million passengers had made their way through the international hub in the 12 months ending in June. The airport is hoping to unclog both its drains and its service by building a new terminal complex slated for completion in 2020.
