On Thursday, Southwest announced on their official Twitter page that they’d opened bookings through Jan. 5, 2020. The announcement came after reports circulated that travelers would have to wait until June 20 to book holiday flights. According to the airline’s website, they plan to release flights through March 6, 2020 on July 10, but the release date is subject to change. Getty Images American, Delta, and United have all been selling holiday flights for months, while flights on Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines are only available through Nov. 13 and Dec. 18, respectively. However, since Southwest is often a price leader, holiday fares may see a price drop. Even with the early flight release by several airlines, Hopper reported that in 2017, only 61 percent of travelers had searched for Thanksgiving flights by Nov. 1 and that the lowest fares that year were found in September. Their data found that most Christmas fares were lowest in mid-October. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
