Qatar’s win comes on the heels of a serious diplomatic struggle.
Customer reviews have, on average, awarded Qatar with four out of five stars in every category, including food and beverage, in-flight entertainment, seat comfort, staff service, and value for money.
This is the fourth year the airline has won the prestigious title, and it also earned awards for having the world’s best business class (new cabins now feature quad-style suites and lie-flat double beds), the world’s best first class lounge, and for being the top airline in the Middle East.
Qatar’s win comes on the heels of a serious diplomatic struggle with neighboring nations Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates — all of which have closed their airspace to flights from Qatar, according to CNN Money.
Singapore Airlines earned second place in this year’s World Airline Awards, with All Nippon Airways coming in third. Emirates, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Lufthansa, Etihad Airways, Hainan Airlines, and Garuda Indonesia filled the rest of the top 10.
