Why Portland Is America's Best Airport
At this airport, you can expect everything from donuts and vegan fare to a mini movie theater.
While navigating through airports can often be a stressful experience, having facilities that offer you ample entertainment, food, and that provide top customer service can make all the difference.
That’s why the Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon, has once again taken the No. 1 spot as the best domestic airport in this year’s World’s Best Awards, making this the fourth year in a row the airport has been voted as America’s best.
Travel + Leisure readers ranked airports based on their access, their check-in and security, their restaurant and bars, their shopping selections, and their design.
Travelers gave Portland International Airport first place thank to the wide range of food options it offers, from the java at Stumptown Coffee Roasters to brioche-style donuts from Blue Star Donuts.
With access via both a light rail line straight from downtown Portland and through regional bike trails, the airport is easy for locals to access and even includes places to park you’re bike before catching a flight.
The airport even offers free Wi-Fi throughout to help you stay connected.
The airport was also the highest ranked when it came to customer service, according to the 2016 North America Airport Satisfaction Study conducted by research company, J.D. Powers, based on factors including terminal facilities, accessibility, security, and food, beverage, and retail offerings.
It’s also one of the country's best airports for on-time performance, ensuring that more than 85 percent of its flights arrived and departed within 15 minutes of their scheduled time last year.
