All Passengers Arriving and Departing From NYC's LaGuardia Airport Can Now Get a Free COVID-19 Test
Test results will be available within 48 hours.
After recently launching on-site COVID-19 testing facilities, New York’s LaGuardia Airport has now opened a testing site that’s free to all passengers with no insurance required.
According to Forbes, the testing center is located on the first floor of the Terminal B parking garage and open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with no appointment necessary. The location also makes it easier for passengers — both arriving and departing from the airport — to access the testing site.
NYC Health + Hospitals clinicians will administer the tests using a standard nose swab, and results will be available by phone within 48 hours. Although insurance is not required to receive a free test, patients with insurance will still be asked to provide their policy information. They will not, however, be charged any copay or coinsurance fees, Forbes reports. Similar airport testing facilities can cost up to $150, saving LaGuardia travelers, especially those who must test often, a significant amount of money.
The LaGuardia testing center consists of six mobile trailers with two check-in windows — one for registration and the other for testing. The facility is currently operating at 25% capacity, with approximately 100 people getting tested each day, Forbes reports.
Last month, New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport also launched on-site rapid COVID-19 testing, with results available in 15 minutes. However, the airport will soon open its own facility to offer free testing in a similar fashion to this site in LaGuardia.
While this on-site testing facility can also lessen complications for those traveling to a destination that requires a negative COVID-19 test to enter, results are not guaranteed to be available before the plane lands. Some destinations may even require printed test results. For a comprehensive look at where Americans can travel right now, along with entry requirements, check our country-by-country travel guide.
