Wennersten’s experience with Africa runs deep, and she’s also up on the latest trends, like bushwalks, and the luxe “starbeds” that let travelers sleep under inky skies after days spent spotting lions, elephants, and other big game. Her pitch to potential clients? That her safari journeys truly go where few have tread. "We have a myriad of places to offer that won't be in your African brochure,” Wennersten says. “We won't have you in vehicles with six other people, won't have you doing what your friends did on safari, but instead will plan something just for you." Thanks to long experience in the travel industry, she has extensive contacts across the continent; some of her preferred lodges and camps include those operated by andBeyond, Singita, and Tourvest. She’s also well-versed in the pre- and post-safari additions that make many trips to Africa multifaceted. Recently, she’s organized gallery hopping for visitors to Cape Town, with art historians serving as expert guides, and she’s connected travelers with primate researchers in Rwanda who added tremendous context to the couple’s expedition to see chimpanzees in the wild.
