Matteo Della Grazia & Daniela Mencarelli
Based in Umbria, these married cofounders of an Italy-focused company arrange for travelers to shadow bakers at an organic panetteria in Perugia, visit goldsmiths in Sardinia, and explore a Renaissance temple set in a cave. Their goal is to show their clients "the Italy of the Italian people."
"Our travelers prefer to be active, and truly experience the destination whether that is through hiking the Path of the Gods or visiting WWI trails and trenches in the Dolomites," they say.
Italy is a perennially popular destination, but travelers can visit again and again and still find something new — especially when they venture off the Rome-Florence-Venice tourist trail. Regions that Della Grazi and Mencarelli are excited about right now include Marche and Abruzzo, tucked away in the grand Apennine mountains. They also like to build itineraries around small towns like Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, home to some of Italy's most coveted products, ranging from sweet prosecco to superb hams and cheeses.
One upcoming event the couple is excited for? The 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome.

"Our experience with Matteo was wonderful. My husband and I told him where we wanted to go, how much we wanted to spend, and he took it from there. Our confidence in him took us from Amalfi to Taormina with private cars and knowledgeable tour guides. We truly had an amazing trip. He was always aware of where we were, and if there was an airline strike, he called us and made sure we were aware. We drove all over Sicily, which Matteo mapped for us with guides meeting us at every stop. We never felt alone. He is the one to use in Italy." — Kym D.
