Travel + Leisure A List Travel Agent Mark Bonte

Mark Bonte

Bonte cofounded his company, French Side Travel, with his father Paul, a 40-year veteran of European travel planning. The duo has a team of specialists across France, ensuring Bonte always has an insider’s perspective on even the most under-the-radar destinations. Bonte’s clients can get a taste of the quintessential sights in lavish ways (think an after-hours dinner at Versailles with a menu by Alain Ducasse), but they’ll also benefit from his up-to-the-minute knowledge of what’s new and notable, such as the city of Bordeaux’s submarine base turned immersive art destination, Bassins de Lumières. Recent clients have enjoyed photography-focused tours of Arles led by Anne Clergue, a gallery owner whose father founded the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival; private cooking classes at the Moulin de Saint-Jean olive oil mill in Fontvieille; and truffle hunting in Provence. As the landscape of leisure travel shifts, Bonte and his team are passionate about promoting sustainable and slow travel experiences. “This can be really important to local economies,” Bonte explains. “It’s not only the right thing to do, but it will be critical for clients over the next decade.”
