Loyd can arrange traditional safaris as well as expeditions into lesser-visited corners of Africa, including the Siwa Oasis, in Egypt, the Simien Mountains of Ethiopia, and the jungles of Madagascar. She's particularly fond of Siwa, but not because it's a traditional luxury travel destination. "This is not somewhere to come to be pampered — the no-frills rooms are simple but comfortable and the eco-lodge has no electricity and relies on water from one of the area’s 200 springs — but it’s a magical place to escape from the modern world," Loyd says. Elsewhere in Africa, she often recommends that guests stay with some of her trusted partners, suggesting camps and hotels operated by the likes of andBeyond, One&Only, Singita, and Wilderness Safaris. Lately, she's seen a welcome uptick in the number of guests specifically traveling for conservation experiences. She's also keen to introduce travelers to "truly off the beaten track" places like the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe.
