Smith specializes in bespoke trips to less-visited parts of Hawaii. In the past year, she organized a reunion for an adventure-loving family that brought them to some of Kauai’s wildest terrain, including the Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali Coast. One of the more heartening developments she’s witnessed recently is travelers’ increased cultural sensitivity toward Hawaii’s indigenous population. “It opens the door to planning more unique itineraries and connecting clients with locals,” she says. To that end, she loves pointing clients to the Mauna Kea on Hawaiʻi, where locals have recently protested the construction of a new telescope. “The volcano is one of the most sacred sites to the Hawaiian people,” she says. “Visiting it offers insight into the local culture and allows travelers to become invested in local issues while they’re on the island.” In addition to Hawaii, Smith is also an expert in European travel and takes frequent trips to the continent to scout new hotels and keep tabs on emerging destinations like Estonia and Lithuania.
