GlobeBleu founder Bob Preston knows his terrain — he’s spent a combined 46 years living in both France and Switzerland — and it shows in his repertoire, which ranges from family trips with rock climbing and rafting in Alpine Switzerland to oenophile excursions at grand cru estates in France. Right now, he’s excited about the renaissance of Lyon, capped off last year by the opening of the luxe InterContinental Lyon–Hôtel Dieu, and the growing traveler interest in once-overlooked corners of France. “Word is getting out how beautiful the rugged coast is in Brittany,” Preston says. “Many clients are asking for it in tandem with Normandy, which has always been popular.” In recent years, he’s expanded his areas of personal expertise to further-flung corners of the Francophone world. Now based partly in Luang Prabang, Laos, Preston has quickly become a go-to for Laotian travel, tapping his local contacts and applying knowledge gleaned from his own on-the-ground experiences to help clients get a closer look at places like the Bolaven Plateau and the Plain of Jars, an Iron Age historical site that's recently been added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.

"I connected with a few potential service providers and Bob's approach really stood out. As I have traveled the world on business extensively, I was looking for memorable, unique Paris moments. We spent a day with a chef who took us to the market, gave us a cooking lesson, and took us to wine merchants. We also had champagne with a champagne producer at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Bob’s attention to detail and the high quality of service of the people he chooses locally made the logistics of the trip simple and amazing. We would have never been able to do the same on our own." - Lou Murray
