With a mix of chic hotels, creative chefs, and stylish boutiques, Healdsburg, California, has emerged as a cosmopolitan hub that still pays homage to its rural Sonoma roots. For a scenic drive through hillside vineyards and wineries, head west out of town on Dry Creek Road. Double back when you hit Lake Sonoma and return south on Yoakim Bridge Road, to link up with the winding West Dry Creek Road, peppered with a handful of small family-owned wineries. Read the article

  • Don't miss...

..Diavola - the best pizza in the country - and I am willing to take bets on it! Diavolo is in Geyserville in the Alexander Valley, a short 7 minutes north of Healdsburg. A fabulous gem that is frequented by locals and tourists alike. You won't find a better meal for the price in wine country. And make sure you drink the house red: it's made by Hawkes, though you wouldn't know it as it is served in a carafe. You can't miss this place if you are in wine country in Norcal.

We visited the area in a different way...on Vespa scooters! Found about them right here on Travel & Leisure(www.WineCountryVespa.com). We found the best small, local wineries and LOVED:
    1) Garden Creek: Amazing small production cabernet, chardonnay, and chef's cooking products called Verjus and Saba -- reduced red wine grapes, in copper pots, that make any dish so much better.
    2) Forth Vineyards: Tiny, beautiful, and tucked away in the hills above Dry Creek Valley. Yum.

If you are out in Dry Creek Valley, I recommend visiting Michel Schlumberger Winery. They are an amazing all organic winery with a beautiful Mission styled winery and beautiful rolling hills. Their tours are great with walks around the vineyards and the inside of the winery. Their wines are delicious, my favorite is their Cabernets, but they also make a Pinot Noir, which they say is the only Dry Creek Valley Pinot. They have a strong committment to the environment too. Must check them ou...
