Teslas have built a reputation on being great for the environment, but they might also be great for camping.

That's right: The electric cars' drivers are not only having a ball camping in the electric cars, there are entire communities dedicated to sharing how to make the most of spending the night in the vehicle.

Teslas have an unofficial camper mode that puts the vehicle in a state that saves battery power while making it pretty comfortable to sleep in. Since camper mode is not an official feature of the car, there won't be any indication for “turning on” this option.

But there are YouTube videos that have been uploaded by Tesla campers around the world explaining how to do it.

Of course, the car doesn't come with a mattress in the back. To become a real Tesla camper, drivers have to employ some hacks.

Inventive Tesla drivers have come up with everything from using a sheet of foam as a black-out shade, to finding the perfectly sized inflatable mattress for the car's backseat, to figuring out exactly what to bring for a great Tesla camping trip.
