The job entails spending time on Tasmania’s Flinders Island and cuddling an orphaned wombat named Derek. "Non-cuddlers need not apply," the listing cautions, because Derek, the eight-month old wombat joey, deserves the best.
Kate Mooney—the “Wombat Lady of Flinders Island”—found Derek in his mother’s pouch after his mother was hit by a car in December. The adorable marsupial then became something of an Internet celebrity after a clip of him running along the racked up tens of thousands of views on YouTube last week.
To apply for the job, applicants must write a 25-word essay explaining "why you're the best person to fill the role of Chief Wombat Cuddler." Should you be chosen for the role, you’ll also win a wombat-filled three-night trip to Flinders Island for yourself and a friend.
Sadly, the job is only open to people who live in Australia. But, if you’ve been considering a move to Melbourne or Sydney, you have a few days. Applications are being accepted through April 16.
