One lucky pilot of a private plane saved his own life and that of two others onboard when he safely landed on a highway near Brignoles, in southern France, local news outlets reported.

The small plane was flying to Italy when it encountered a technical problem and was forced to make an emergency landing.

The pilot managed to bring the aircraft safely down in the emergency lane, and everyone walked away safely. The plane managed to avoid making contact with any cars on the busy A8 Highway.

Firefighters had been alerted to the aircraft’s distress signal via helicopter and were able to quickly arrive on scene. The gendarmerie confirmed the safety of the pilot and the passengers onboard in a tweet posted to their verified Twitter account soon after.

Brignoles is a picturesque community in the Provence region, between St. Tropez and Marseille, and it is about 100 miles from the Italian border.
