The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting her third child with Prince William.
Kate Middleton made her first public appearance Tuesday since announcing her third pregnancy over a month ago. Middleton stepped out to join husband Prince William and brother-in-law Prince Harry at a reception in honor of World Mental Health Day and to celebrate those working in the mental health sector. Middleton and the brothers have teamed up on Heads Together, a campaign that aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues, People reports.
This reception marks the first time Middleton has been seen in public since August 30, the date of the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.
The duchess has been frequently bedridden since her pregnancy announcement due to bouts of Hyperemesis Gravidarum, or severe morning sickness — a condition she suffered from during both of her previous pregnancies as well.
People also reports that an aide told reporters, “The Duchess’ condition is improving but she is still suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. She is delighted to be able to be here tonight.”
Middleton’s small baby bump was visible under her long-sleeved, blue lace Temperley London dress ($875; net-a-porter.com) during the reception, and the radiant mother-to-be appeared happy and in good health.
While the duchess' bump may have captured the attention of some press and attendees, the family was excited to keep the focus on mental health as well. In fact, it seems it was Middleton who proposed the idea of teaming up with Princes William and Harry to create the Heads Together campaign. People reports that William gave a speech at an event earlier on Tuesday in which he said it was Kate “who first realized that all three of us were working on mental health in our individual areas of focus. She had seen that at the core of adult issues like addiction and family breakdown, unresolved childhood mental health issues were often part of the problem.”
While Middleton’s due date has not been announced, William has previously hinted that it may be “sooner than you think.”
