Travelers aren't the only ones frustrated by long security lines at the airport. American Airlines released a statement on Wednesday complaining that the TSA isn't doing enough to make sure passengers get to their flights on time.

"The lines at TSA checkpoints nationwide have become unacceptable," said American Airlines spokesman Ross Feinstein. "The result: our customers are waiting in TSA lines greater than one hour."

Not only are people waiting in long lines in general, but the airline also claimed that the problem has become increasingly worse, even during slow travel times. According to the airline, almost 6,800 American Airline passengers missed their flights during the week of March 14-20 because of security delays, with the worst airports being Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, and Philadelphia.

"As we approach spring and summer, we are concerned that these lines will grow even longer," added Feinstein.

The comments from the airline came on the same day the head of Charlotte-Douglass International Airport also complained about the TSA, claiming there is insufficient staffing at checkpoints, which creates longer lines. If fact, for two days in March, it took approximately three hours to get through security.

And they're not the only airport up in arms. Last week the director of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport threatened to replace TSA personnel with private security contractors, and Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport said they might follow suit.

The Chicago aviation commissioner also told the Chicago Tribune that city was pushing the TSA to shorten the “severe” lines.
