This 35.6-mile scenic route meanders through some of western Maine’s most picturesque terrain. The Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway begins on Route 4, just outside of Rangeley, Maine, passes by Rangeley Village and Rangeley Lake, then continues on Route 17. Highlights include the Height of Land, offering views of lakes, forests, and the White Mountains in New Hampshire, and the Rangeley Lakes Logging Museum. The route passes through 33,000 acres of protected wilderness, offering plenty of recreational opportunities. Travelers can complete the route in two to three hours, but sightseers should allocate at least eight hours.
