Surrounded by wide expanses and the desert-like terrain of the Great Karoo, Bergwater Vineyards has been open since 1999 and is the only vineyard in the Prince Albert Valley. Bordered by a nature preserve, the area around Bergwater is untouched by development. With the Swartberg Mountains as its backdrop, the owners of the wine estate are dedicated to preserving the local natural habitat by employing environmentally freindly winemaking practices. The company is known for producing big reds, like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Shiraz. Bergwater is a popular event space, with wide, covered porches; exposed wooden beams; and stone walls.
Wine and cheese go together; while in the area, tour Gay's Guernsey Dairy, which makes cheese from unpasteurized milk.
