Parrot Jungle Island
More than 1000 exotic birds and other colorful varmints populate this iconic South Florida discovery park that dates back to 1936. Founded by Australian businessman Franz Sherr (as 'Parrot Jungle'), the birdie-centric venue moved from an island in Biscayne Bay to more expansive digs on Watson Island in 2003. Jungle Island's interactive animal exhibits include a serpentarium, parrot bowl, authentic Everglades experience, and up-close-and-personal kangaroo encounter. Covered walkways between exhibits and dense overhanging trees make the park a shady respite from the South Florida heat.
